Informing ARB about misuse of the title 'Architect'
Please use this form if you would like to inform us of a potential offence regarding
an individual or practice using the protected title 'Architect'. Section 20 of the
Act prohibits anyone from using the name, style or title "architect" in business
or practice unless they are registered with ARB.
We are unable to investigate complaints about people or practices that are using
variations in the word such as 'Architecture' and 'Architectural' as they are not
protected under legislation. Anyone can provide architectural services in the UK,
but they must not use the title 'Architect' if they are not on the Register.
ARB's policy is to investigate and stop any ongoing misuse of title as quickly as
possible rather then immediately prosecute. ARB will be unable to keep you updated
on the progress of the investigation; however, we will advise you if further action
is taken in respect of the complaint you have raised.
Please complete this form as fully as you can. You should also read our information
leaflet on
What we do to regulate use of the title Architect
as this sets out what we do when we investigate a complaint.

In order to investigate your complaint, we would normally need to see clear evidence
that shows the individual or practice is claiming to be an architect when they are
not registered. For example, business cards, websites, planning applications, headed
notepaper. This is because if an offender is convicted, they may have to pay a fine
(currently up to £2,500 for each offence). The evidence must show that the offence
occured within the last 18 months.
